Extern sweeps the Board with ILM Governance results.
Extern, Ireland’s leading social justice charity is celebrating after eight members of its Board achieved an ILM Award in Leadership and Management, focusing on leading governance. Following a Board meeting in Cavan, Board members were presented with their certificates by author, and former Governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lornegan, who talked about his experience of working with young people within the justice system in Ireland.
Welcoming the ILM Award achieved by Board members, Extern Chief Executive, Charlie Mack, said;
“At Extern we pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality services for our many clients. I am delighted that our Board also has the highest standards of corporate governance and have achieved this excellent result. Board members are now trained and certified across governance and leadership, which will ensure we as a charity, are properly led and governed.
We are dealing with a huge rise in issues including working with people who are homeless, and our services to young families and vulnerable adults are at full capacity. Across Ireland, there is a huge demand for Extern’s services and we are always ready to empower our clients to face their many challenges. This training for the Board, will help guide us and steer Extern in the future as we work to support those who turn to Extern for help 365 days a year,” Charlie added.
Annually Extern provides over 11,000 beds and food to homeless people in its Belfast Centre as well as providing intensive family support to over 2,873 young people and their families across Ireland. Last year Extern helped 2,264 vulnerable adults in need of assistance.
