December 2017

29 December 2017.

Is your pooch more of a pudge or your feline a bit frumpy?

Making New Year’s resolutions that are good for our pets too!

Mackle Petfoods

As most of us know, January is a time when we stop eating and drinking after the Christmas period of over indulgence, and vow to get healthy, going to the gym, walking and exercising again. If you are one of the 16.5m cat and dog lovers in the UK, you may well include them in your regime of eating healthier, taking longer walks or even getting out for a run together if you have a dog.  In Ireland, over 49% of the population own a dog, and over 30% own a cat*, so is 2018 time to get your walking boots on for you and your pooch or is it time to stop the extra treats for your fav pussy cat!

Local pet food company, Mackle Pet Foods, who own Naturo are wanting to help make 4 cats and dogs become healthier in 2018.  Naturo which is high in quality nutrition, is created using only natural ingredients, by the company who works closely with leading nutritionists to ensure food formulations specifically meet the nutritional needs of pets.  The team are keen to help 2 cats and 2 dogs, and their owners, kick start 2018 as a healthier one for their pets.  They are on the lookout for cats and dogs who are maybe a little too round after all the Christmas treats, and would benefit from a healthy diet and some additional activity! Through the company facebook page, www.facebook.com/naturopetfood/ the public can upload photos of their pet who would benefit from a starter pack of Naturo healthy pet food to kickstart 2018 on the right note.  The Naturo starter pack will contain healthy foods to help pets benefit from a healthier digestive system, healthy skin and a shiny coat, as well as having more energy.

Commenting on the campaign to make pets healthier in 2018, Claire McNally, Marketing Manager, with Mackle Pet Foods, said;

“Our pets mean the world to us, they’re often a source for joy in our homes and families, and we all want them to stay as healthy as possible.   We all love a treat over the festive period, and so do our pets.  We know many people who want to have healthier pets, so we want to help make 4 cats and dogs start the New Year on a healthier and happier note. Our Naturo brand is focused on making pet owners feel happier, whilst their pets become healthier and Naturo makes for the perfect choice.  The 4 cats and dogs we select will receive a healthy Naturo starter pack which will make for a healthier digestive system, healthy skin and shiny coat, and the pets will benefit from having more energy too”.

To enter the competition to win a healthy Naturo starter pack, upload a photo of your pet onto Facebook between January 2-5 commenting on why you want a healthier happier pet.  Starter packs will be issued during the second week in January.

The company also has many tips for having a healthier cat and dog in 2018.

Diet

No surprises here, but at Naturo, we believe the easiest way of encouraging a healthy life for your pet, is through diet.  Its proven that not only can a high-quality diet ensure your pet has a shiny coat and bright eyes, but also healthy skin and good teeth - and all the things we can’t see, like bones and internal organs.

At Naturo we work with nutritionists and vets to ensure that our natural pet food is designed to promote and boost healthy immune systems in cats and dogs, with specifically chosen ingredients for healthy digestion systems and strong bones and joints.

Exercise

Like humans, cats and dogs also need to stay active to help them stay healthy and fit. There are many ways you can help your pet stay active, whether it is taking your dog for regular walks or playing fetch.

If you have a cat, laser pointer toys / flashlights against a wall keep them entertained and active or simply letting your cat play with a box or a soft ball, can get them excited and having fun. Your vet will tell you about how much exercise your individual pet needs.

Regular Vet Visits

Regular trips to the vet can help detect any underlying health issues. We would recommend having at least one appointment a year as this can help prevent illness.

Keep on Top of Dental Hygiene

We brush our teeth every morning and night, we try not to have bad breath and we visit the dentist regularly, right? Well our pet’s dental hygiene is just as important. Having bad dental hygiene can lead to lots of health complications for our pets, like gum diseases, tooth loss, bad breath, gum recession and many more.

To avoid these complications and to keep your pet’s dental hygiene good, your best defence is to get your pet’s teeth professionally cleaned by a veterinarian and to brush his teeth daily. If you’ve never brushed your pet’s teeth before, the key is to start off slowly and gradually work your way up to regularly brushing his teeth. (Advice from: Vetstreet.com)

Groom Regularly

Grooming regularly isn’t just to keep our pets looking good, it also helps us keep our pets healthy. Grooming (bathing, trimming, etc.) our pets regularly allows us to check for any lumps, bumps, and skin conditions.
