‘The Orangeness of Trump’ among topics to feature in ‘Anti Clockwise – a major musical spectacle reflecting the world of 2019.

Dumbworld and The Ulster Orchestra collaboration to premiere.

‘Young people of the world take over….for if you don’t the world will come to an end!’

New oxford dictionary entries including toxic, apoliticism, binge watch and energy vampire will appear in brand new contemporary music collaboration involving over 200 young people next month at Belfast’s Ulster Hall.   The group which includes young people from across Derry/Londonderry and Belfast, have joined forces to work with the award winning Dumbworld and the Ulster Orchestra for the performance which will take place on 14 March 2019 in Belfast’s Ulster Hall.

The group which is made up of young people from Harmony North, Codetta, Codetta Junior and Ulster University Choirs have come together in collaboration to create a large scale work which is a provocative and urgent response to the world of 2019. Funding for the project has been provided by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, through its NI Lottery Funding scheme.

Working with the Orchestra and Dumbworld’s Brian Irvine and John McIlduff, to explore the world of 2019, the performance will passionately bring real time issues under the global spotlight.  Issues such as gender, politics and mental health…. Fortnite, zoos, and human rights…. new words for the Oxford English Dictionary and the "orangeness" of Trump will all feature in the show spectacular.

Commenting ahead of its first performance, Brian Irvine, Co-Artistic Director of Anti Clockwise, said;

“Let’s face it - the grown-ups are, and have been for a while now, making a hash of it: Trump, NI Assembly, Brexit, Syria, Strictly Come Dancing?  … We as a society need to listen more to the voices of the future and get out of the way and let them change what needs to be changed.

Anti Clockwise brings together young people from all over Northern Ireland to speak and sing and shout and dance about things that are important to them. They are passionate, fascinating, inspiring and funny - they have big ideas and even bigger hearts.  As well as that they make the most beautiful sound and sing the ‘bejaybers’ out of everything. This is a piece like no other - a radical sonic adventure led, designed and performed by the voices of our future…. Come…. listen…...and be blown away !!”

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is principal funder of both the Ulster Orchestra and Dumbworld, Ciaran Scullion, Head of Music, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, added;

“This is a very exciting collaboration from two of our most celebrated organisations, bringing together a wealth of talent, in what promises to be a standout performance of 2019.  Congratulations to all.”

The show itself is a promenade piece where audience will stand throughout. There will be limited seating available in balcony. For tickets visit www.ulsterhall.co.uk.  Anti Clockwise is supported by the Arts Council for Northern Ireland through its National Lottery Fund and Belfast City Council.
