Hole in One - Abbey Upholsterers celebrates creating award winning trophies for Galgorm IPS Honda World Invitational.

It was an excellent week for local Jordanstown woman Stephanie Meadow last week as she earned an emotional home win at the World Invitational in Galgorm Castle after holding off England's Charley Hull by one shot.  Playing in her first pro event in Northern Ireland, Meadow's level-par 73 gave her a 10-under-par total. Jack Senior beat Matthew Baldwin in a play-off to win the men's event. The event was attended by locals and visitors with guests including Niall Horan and former Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

It was also an exciting week for the team at Abbey Upholsterers located a few miles up the road from Stephanie’s hometown of Jordanstown who were part of the team who created the bespoke award winning trophies presented to Stephanie and Jack in collaboration with Cheah Rothe design in Belfast.

The trophies were made from trees which had previously fallen at the Dark Hedges and were repurposed for the Golf event.  The team at Abbey Upholsterers who provide specialist joinery and fit out were responsible for creating the trophies from the wood, working to the precise design of Cheah Rothe design based in Belfast. The metalwork element was made by Smiths Engineering works (NI) Ltd.

Commenting on the opportunity to create the trophies, George Devlin from Abbey Upholsterers, said;

“We were delighted and slightly nervous when Cheah asked us to undertake the creation of the trophies for this world class event.  Given our focus is mainly on larger bespoke upholstery, this was a rather unique commission which required our expert carpentry exact team’s precision and technical skills.  It was wonderful to be entrusted with the wood from the Dark Hedges, and really satisfying to see it being used for something local with a global following.  Naturally we were thrilled to see local woman Stephanie Meadow lift one of the trophies too, that was the icing on the cake.”

Stephanie Meadow and Jack Senior were presented with their trophies on the 18th green.
